The Studios of Key West

The Studios of Key West is where creativity meets island quirkiness — a colorful arts hub where you can wander galleries, meet real working artists, and maybe even unlock your own inner Picasso

The Studios of Key West: Where Island Creativity Runs Wild

By Gus Moore

If Key West had a living room, it would be The Studios of Key West — bright, welcoming, a little eccentric, and full of people making things you wish you could make at home without burning your fingers.

Located in the heart of downtown, The Studios is part art gallery, part creative playground, and part “I-didn’t-know-I-liked-ceramics-until-now” awakening. This is the place to step out of the sun, soak in air-conditioning, and let your imagination stretch its legs.

Inside, you’ll find rotating exhibits from local and visiting artists, performance spaces, and even working studios where you can peek in and watch creativity happening in real time. (It’s like a zoo, but instead of lions, you get sculptors, painters, and the occasional poet who looks suspiciously like they’ve been up all night writing.)

Why it’s worth going

  • Get inspired – The exhibits change regularly, so there’s always something new to discover.
  • Meet the makers – Chat with resident artists and see where the magic happens.
  • Take a workshop – Try your hand at pottery, painting, photography, or something you’ll brag about later.
  • Support local art – Your visit helps keep Key West’s creative scene thriving.
  • Perfect indoor activity – Rainstorm? Heat wave? Sunburn emergency? The Studios has you covered.

Gus’s take

As someone who spends a lot of time showing folks around Key West, The Studios is one of my favorite “surprise hits.” People wander in thinking they’ll spend five minutes… and come out an hour later discussing lighting techniques and the emotional resonance of driftwood sculptures. It’s that kind of place. Whether you're an art lover, a casual wanderer, or just someone looking for a cool, fun stop between Rum Runner's, The Studios of Key West is absolutely worth a visit.
