The Shipwreck Museum highlights:

  • The Key West Museum combines actors, films, and the actual artifacts from the 1985 rediscovery of the wrecked vessel Isaac Allerton, which sank in 1856 on the treacherous Florida Keys reef.
  • Join master wrecker Asa Tift and his wrecking crew as he tells you the story of how this unusual industry provided for the livelihoods of the early pioneers of Key West.
  • Visitors can climb the 65-foot lookout tower and if need be, alarm Mr. Tift of any wrecks on the reef.
  • Relive the life of the wreckers as they fight the storms to save the lives and cargo on the treacherous reefs on the Florida Keys.
  • See Key West, as a bustling, boisterous sea town on the frontier of a young America.
  • The museum tours give you a glimpse at 19th-century life and the wrecking’s influence on the island’s society.
